TYPES OF COUNTERTOPS
LAMINATELaminate countertops are made out of high pressure plastic laminate which is applied over a particle board or plywood substrate. Laminate is very versatile and has come a long way in durability and appearance. With its new colors, laminate countertops look so much like natural stone or granite that it will fool you! Different edge profiles and available colors, make the possibilities with laminate endless.
SOLID SURFACESolid surface is mostly referred to as “Corian” (which is the most well-known brand of solid surface). Solid surface is a man-made product consisting of acrylic and polyester resins. It is a non- porous material which makes it extremely stain resistant and also very hygienic as no bacteria can penetrate it. Solid Surface is available in many brands, colors, and patterns and is backed by a manufacturer warranty.
GRANITEGranite is a 100 % natural stone available in many colors and patterns. Granite is mined from quarries all over the world. Once mined it is then cut to different slab sizes, polished, and delivered to different countries for purchase. Granite slabs can have looks from being conservative to very exotic. Some stones are very rare and hard to find. These slabs will have lots of different veining, structure, and color. Since the stone is so hard and offers wide variety of colors, it makes for a perfect countertop, fireplace surround, bath and shower parts and more.
QUARTZAlso known as "Engineered Stone", this composite material is made by mixing natural quartz and polyester resins. The result is a strong, low maintenance, and non-porous material available in an array of colors and patterns. Because quartz never needs to be sealed and has a greater consistency and strength than marble or granite, it is truly a step above natural stone. Quartz is also backed by a manufacturer warranty.
