The following is an overview of the sequence of events during a typical project and is helpful information for anyone considering or installing new counters. Although this outline focuses on kitchen counters, the process is the same or similar for most installations. PROCESS:
Once you have a Job Confirmation, the countertop project goes through the production steps of templating, fabrication, tear out and installation. Tear out and installation occur on the same day.
When we arrive for templating, we ask that you have cleared your countertops and keep the work area free of any objects. This will help us to finish the template efficiently, and will also protect your items from any dust or damage. Templates usually take a couple of hours. In the templating process, we make a pattern of your cabinets.
DURING THIS PHASE:
All sinks/cook tops/faucets are checked for compatibility and fit (therefore all such units must be on-site at template). Cabinets are reviewed for any adjustments required, as best can be determined. Overhangs, general support, personal preferences, and any refinements needed to cabinetry, etc., which will be required prior to installation of your countertops, will also be discussed with you. Seam placement is not determined by the time of template, therefore this will be discussed by your sales person after he/she has confirmed it with the department Forman.
During installation, your undermount sink(s) will be mounted under your stone. If Empire Fabricators is not doing the plumbing, we ask that you do not plumb in or use the sink in any way for at least 6 hours. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your plumber to reconnect the water and drain. Also, cook tops and faucets, etc. will be dropped into place for confirmation of fit.
We prefer to obtain all of this information/material at time of template or very soon after. We will need all sinks, cook tops, faucets, and any other accessory being cut or mounted into your countertop.
Prior to fabrication, we will have you come in to approve your slabs, layout your templates, and confirm placement of all plumbing products. We will ask that you review and sign off on the Post Template Checklist. If the drawing submitted for your quote differs from your actual job we will let you know at this time and adjust the price up or down accordingly.
If your project requires that we tear out and remove your existing countertops, we will do so at time of installation. If we are not doing the plumbing you need to have a plumber disconnect all plumbing prior to tear out. Be sure not to use your dishwasher until your plumber has reconnected the drain.
At installation, we ask that you also clear the work area of any objects and clear a path for the installers to carry in the counters. The installation phase can take the better part of a day; and can require some final cutouts to be made in your home. Please keep in mind that this is a major remodeling job, there may be some residual dust over the next couple of days. Some dust can result even though our installers are equipped to catch the majority of it. We recommend the drawers be removed and items under cook top and sink cabinet be removed to allow access.
Your inspection of the finished job is very important. The lead installer will review the installation with you, answer any questions you may have and ask for payment of the final balance due for your project.
"I would never have thought that changing a countertop could make such a difference in the atmosphere of our kitchen."
