How to Seal Granite Countertops

STEP 1
Remove and put aside all items that are on your countertops.

STEP 2
Clean the countertops with a daily stone cleaner. Make sure the countertops are clean of all crusted or dried food residues. (If some residues are difficult to remove with a cleaner and towel, try and scrape with a razor blade or rub with #0000 steel wool). After towel drying let the countertops continue to air dry for another 15 - 20 minutes.

STEP 3
Take a paper towel and fold it into a square. Saturate the towel with the granite sealer. Drizzle the sealer on the countertops and spread evenly with the saturated towel. Allow the applied sealer to dry for about 20 - 25 minutes. (Check with your granite fabricator to determine what type of sealer was originally used. Some sealers are water based and some are silicone based. It is best to seal with the original base used).

STEP 4
Drizzle a second application of sealer on the countertops and spread evenly with the same saturated towel. Allow this application to dry for about another 20 - 25 minutes.

STEP 5
Buff granite completely dry with paper towel or terry cloth. Wait about 30 minutes before replacing your items on the countertops.
